What is Canvas?
The Sioux Falls School District is committed to each student's success. Making sure students, staff, and parents are on the same page is important. Canvas is a single learning management system for K through 12th grade families and a central starting point for teaching and learning. Canvas keeps teachers, students, and families connected while providing equitable access to interactive, engaging content from anywhere at anytime.
With Canvas, teachers can create powerful content and instruction using their favorite digital tools while students can easily access course materials, participate in online discussions, collaborate with peers, and hand in digital assignments. From rubrics to analytics, Canvas is outfitted with smart, intuitive features to help take learning to the next level.
Canvas takes the place of previously used tools like SeeSaw, Schoology, and Google Classroom - making parent engagement more streamlined and accessible for all.
Getting Started
Step 1: Generate a Pairing Code
Canvas refers to parents and guardians as "Observers." For Observers to connect with their student's account, the student must generate a Pairing Code. The student can generate a Pairing Code from their Canvas account. A separate Pairing Code is required for each observer who wants to link to that student's account.
Step 2: Getting Connected (if you already have a Pairing Code)
Parents/Guardians can create a Canvas account and link to their student’s account to view information about assignments, announcements, and other course content.
